Picardy Interchange I-10 Baton Rouge, LA
Big River lightweight aggregate was used for backfill material between segmental retaining walls constructed for frontage roads and bridge approach embankments. Ordinary fill (sand) was used for portions of the embankments where the walls were less than 20 feet tall. For portions of the wall exceeding 20 feet in height, Big River lightweight aggregate was used to reduce soil pressures and subsequent settlement of the underlying soils.
